NHRC Debate competition for Para-Military Forces

The National Human Rights Commission organized an All-India Debate competition of Inter-Central Para-Military Forces in Hindi and English in collaboration with the National Security Guards, NSG.at Manesar, Haryana today.
The topic of the debate competition was "Adherence to Human Rights norms compromises effectiveness of the security forces."The first prize for debate in Hindi went to Mr. Gajendra Kumar, Rifleman, Assam Rifles and in English to Mr. Navdeep Singh Heera, Assistant Commandant, CISF. The second prize in Hindi went to Mr. Puran Singh, Havaldar, Assam Rifles and in English to Major Shankar Das, NSG. The third prize in Hindi went to Mr. D. Suwalakhia, Inspector, CISF, and in English to Ms. Rajbir Kaur, Constable, BSF. The overall best team rolling trophy went to Assam Rifles.
The winners were decided by a three member panel of jury headed by Mr. Satyabrata Pal,Member, NHRC and comprising Mr. M.B. Kaushal, Former Special Secretary, Internal Security and Mr.Tarun Basu, Senior Journalist and Chief Editor, IANS.
Congratulating the winners of the Debate Competition, Mr. Satyabrata Pal said that despite the challenges of their duties, the security forces should be sensitive towards the human rights .Earlier, welcoming the participants and the guests, Mr. R.K. Mendhekar, Director General, NSG said that this debate competition has been useful in spreading awareness about human rights among the the Central Para Military Forces.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Sunil Krishna, Director General (Investigation), NHRC appreciated the valued inputs by the participants and congratulated the winners. He also thanked the jury and the NSG for making the event successful.
NHRC has been organizing this debate competition in Hindi and English since 1996. The debate is initially conducted at 8 zonal levels short listing 64 debaters and then the semi final and final rounds are conducted. The responsibility to hold semi final and final round is entrusted to one of the Para Military Forces on rotation. This year the responsibility was entrusted to the NSG to hold the debate competition under the aegis of NHRC.
