NHRC asked the Tamil Nadu Government to pay a monetary relief of one lakh rupees instead of fifty thousand rupees to the next of kin of the deceased prisoner, Thilagar. The Commission increased this amount as it felt that this amount is grossly inadequate for loss of human life.
