NHRC intervenes in a case of terrorist attack on army officials in J&K

The National Human Rights Commission has intervened in a case of a terrorist attack on army officials at Kaluchak, Jammu and asked the Ministries of Defence and Home Affairs to take necessary action on compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.
On 11 June 2003, the Commission received seven separate complaints regarding the terrorist attack on the accommodation of Junior Commissioned Officers and other ranks at Kaluchak, Jammu on 14th May last year in which heavy casualties occurred. The complainants, on behalf of the next of kin of the deceased, sought Commission's intervention for appropriate compensation to them.
At a recent meeting of the Full Commission, it was decided to send copies of these complaints to the Secretary, Ministry of Defence and the Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India for taking necessary action. They were asked to report back to the Commission within eight weeks.
