NHRC issues a notice to the Government of Uttar Pradesh over several families leaving their homes Kairana area in Western UP due to fear of criminals [10.06.2016]

The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, Government of Uttar Pradesh calling for reports within four weeks on a complaint alleging that families of a particular religion are leaving Kairana area of Western UP due to fear of criminals. It has been further allegedly, about 250 families have migrated and left their homes out of the fear of criminals who enjoy political patronage. The Commission has observed that allegations made are serious in nature. It has also directed its DIG(Investigation) to depute a team of officers for a spot enquiry in the matter covering all the allegations made in the complaint and submit a report within two weeks.
According to the complaint dated 10th June, 2016, a woman belonging to Kashyap caste was abducted, gangraped and killed, yet no action has been taken by the police against the offenders. Two of the businessmen viz. Shankar and Raju both brothers were shot dead by the criminals in broad day light in the market when they did not pay protection money to the criminals. A petrol pump was also looted in the area and when the police took on criminals, they shot dead a constable and managed to flee.
