NHRC issues a notice to the Police Commissioner, Pune on the alleged police firing on agitating farmers
New Delhi, August 12th, 2011
The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has seen media reports and also received a complaint alleging that four farmers died in police firing in Pune. Allegedly, the farmers were protesting against the laying of a pipeline which led to skirmishes between the farmers and the police on the 9th August, 2011. Subsequent to this in police firing four persons including a woman died and many others were seriously injured.
The Commission has issued a notice to the Police Commissioner, Pune calling for a report within for weeks in the matter.
