NHRC issues notice to concerned authorities on the difficulties faced by next of kin of the deceased and victims of the 11/7 Mumbai blast.

The National Human Rights Commission issued notices to Chief Secretary, Maharashtra; Chairman, Railway Board; General Manager, Western Railways and Chief Medical Officer, Western Railways on a complaint regarding the difficulties being faced by the next of kin of the deceased and the victims who suffered serious injuries in the bomb blasts in Mumbai on 11th July, 2006. The Commission has asked respective reports with specification whether or not any compensation has been paid to the next of kin of the deceased or the victims who have suffered serious injuries in the blast. The Commission has also asked them to specify what steps, if any, have been taken to ensure proper medical treatment to the injured.
The order came on a joint complaint filed by Dr. Kirit Somaiya, former MP, Shri Gopal Shetty, Member of Maharashtra Legislature and Shri Parag Alawani. It alleged, though various announcements and legal commitments were made by the authorities to compensate the victim or next of kin of victims, it was also assured that treatment to the seriously injured persons will be provided, yet affected persons and families were facing harassment. The complainants prayed for the intervention of the NHRC to ensure justice to the affected.
