New Delhi, April 30th, 2012

A senior lady citizen was knocked down by a vehicle in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh on the 21st April, 2012. The police allegedly continued to dispute the jurisdiction of the incident and did not take the injured lady to a hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, even as she was crying for help, the stray dogs mauled her to death. This incident was reported by a newspaper on the 22nd April, 2012.

The National Human Rights Commission taking suo motu cognizance of the media report has issued a notice to the Director General Police, Uttar Pradesh to submit a detailed report in the matter within four weeks. The Commission has observed in its notice that, if true, this indifference by the police who are supposed to take action is quite reprehensible and also violative of human rights of a citizen.
