NHRC issues notice to Government of Bihar on violence against dalits in District Rohtas

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that on 15th August, 2013, a dalit man was stoned to death and at least 40 others, including women and children, were seriously injured in violence when they tried to unfurl the National Flag at the site of a temple against the alleged diktat by upper caste men in Dandwa Baddi Village, District Rohtas, Bihar.
The Commission has observed that the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the weaker sections of the society and issued notices to the Chief Secretary and DGP, Bihar calling for reports in the matter within four weeks.
