New Delhi, 7th March, 2013
The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that during the last seven years about 2230 girls went missing from the five Districts of Sagar, Damoh, Tikamgarh, Panna, and Chhatarpur in the Sagar Division of Bundelkhand, Madhya Pradesh. Out of them 482 were still untraceable.
The Commission has observed that the contents of the report, if true, raise a serious violation of human rights of the victim. A notice has been issued to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, Madhya Pradesh calling for reports within four weeks.
Reportedly, the girls are being lured and sold into flash trade in the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh. Most of the victims are Dalit and Adivasi girls. Allegedly, the police is also colluding with the perpetrators of trafficking of girls.
