The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a woman was gang raped by policemen in Chaupanki police station at Alwar Rajasthan.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, carried on 24th December, 2013, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim, by those whose duty to protect human right. A notice has been issued to the Superintendent of Police, Alwar, Rajasthan calling for a report within three weeks.

Reportedly, the victim and her relative had gone to the police station lodge a complaint regarding a quarrel, while the relative was made to sit outside, the PS In-charge and two constables gang raped the woman. The incident is reported to have happened on the 15th December, 2013.
