NHRC issues notice to Tamil Nadu Government
on student violence

The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu seeking reports within four weeks in the alleged incident of beating of a student by more than 20 other students wielding dangerous weapons in the presence of police officials in the Dr. Ambedkar Law College in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on 12/11/2008. The notice has been issued on a complaint filed by an NGOs, World Human Rights Commission & Rescue Centre, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The complainant alleged that despite media reporters requesting them to protect the student, the police officials present at the site of the incident failed to respond.
