NHRC issues notice to the DGP, UP on media reports alleging police atrocities on women protesters in Ferozabad

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that some police personnel were found kicking and lathi-charging women protestors in Ferozabad district. Reportedly, the women and others were protesting against the death of two persons in an accident at Village Rajopura, Matsena, Ferozabad.
The Commission has observed that the contents of the report, if true, amount to serious violation of dignity of women and their human rights. Accordingly, a notice has been issued to the Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh calling for report in the matter within two weeks.
The Commission came across this report in the State Capital, Lucknow, where it is holding its three day Camp Sitting.
