New Delhi, July 5th, 2011

The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh Government through its Chief Secretary directing him to look into the complaint of farmers from five villages in Aligarh district alleging that their land is being acquired forcibly by the district authorities. He has been asked to submit a report within 4 weeks.
A delegation of farmers representing five villages of Aligarh District in the Western Uttar Pradesh visited the Commission and submitted a joint complaint alleging that the district authorities are unduly pressurizing them to extract their consent for acquisition of their land for J.P. Group, a private company. Allegedly Yamuna Express Way and Model Town Projects are under construction, for which the land of the farmers from these villages is being acquired forcibly.
The farmers have also alleged that the Revenue authorities have got their electricity supply disconnected. They are not allowed to cultivate their lands. They are also being allegedly implicated in false criminal cases by the police and they are being threatened for dire consequences if they do not agree to part with their lands.
The Commission has also decided to depute its investigation team for conducting an on the spot enquiry in Jikerpur, Jahangarh, Kansera, Udaipur and Tappal villages of tehsil Khair in the district which are allegedly going to be affected due to land acquisition .
Meanwhile, the NHRC team which investigated violence over land acquisition in Bhatta- Parsaul areas of Greater NOIDA in Uttar Pradesh has finalized its report which will be placed for consideration of the Full Commission shortly.
