NHRC issues notice to Tripura Government on the allegations of baby still born due to wrong handling by helpers.

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report alleging a baby was stillborn due to wrong handling by helpers in absence of concerned doctor at a government hospital in South Tripura on 3rd June, 2013.
The Commission, considering the content of the report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of right to health of the patients, issued notice to the Secretary (Health), Government of Tripura calling for a report within four weeks.
Allegedly, the would be mother had not complication before the delivery and expected a normal baby. However, the concerned doctor, who was supposed to conduct the delivery, chose not to perform it. The helpers, who are frequently assigned the responsibility to handle such cases, took care of the delivery.
The Commission has also directed the Secretary (Health), Government of Tripura to inform about the nature of facilities and the number of medical and paramedical staff available in the hospital besides average number of patients visiting the hospital per day.
