NHRC issues notices to DGP, U.P. and SSP, Mathura in a case of death in police firing

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports that 18 years old boy was shot dead in District Mathura, Uttar Pradesh by police when he refused to give them bribe while he was carrying some material on a tractor trolley on 19th March, 2013. Allegedly, when the local residents protested against such an atrocity, the police fired at them resulting injuries to seven persons.
The Commission observed that the contents of media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights and issued notices to the Uttar Pradesh, Director General of Police and SSP, Mathura to submit a report within four weeks.
