NHRC issues notices to the UP Chief Secretary, DM and SSP, Muzaffarnagar on allegations of gang rape in a relief camp

The National Human Rights Commission has taken cognizance of a complaint alleging gang rape of a 20 year old girl on the 2nd November, 2013 in a relief camp for the riot victims of Muzaffarnagar. The complainant has also alleged that the incident happened due to administrative negligence and requested the Commission's intervention in the matter.
The Commission has observed that the allegations, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights. Accordingly, it has issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh, District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, calling for reports in the matter.
Allegedly, the victim was residing in a relief camp at Village Jogaheri, Fugana, Muzaffarnagar. In the night of the 2nd November, 2013, she was dragged away by two youth and gang raped. The medical reports confirmed rape.
