NHRC notice to Chhattisgarh Government on allegations of gang rape of 11 minor tribal girls
New Delhi, 14th January, 2013
The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to Chief Secretary and DGP, Chhattisgarh calling for reports within four weeks on the allegations of gang rape of eleven minor tribal girls in the State. Allegedly, these girls were sexually exploited by their teacher and a chowkidar at a Government Hostel in Kankar.
The Commission has directed them to inform it about the steps taken for providing medical care to the victims as well as the steps taken for the protection of inmates of the hostel.
This incident was also reported in the media on the 7th January, 2013 and the Commission also received complaints on the issue seeking appropriate action.
