NHRC notice to Delhi Police on allegations of non registration of complaint of a girl who escaped trafficking


New Delhi, 16th January, 2013
The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report carried on the 11th January, 2013 that the police did not register the complaint of a 15 year old girl who was enticed away by a neighbour to sell her.

Reportedly, the incident happened on the 4th January, 2013 in East Delhi. The girl somehow managed to escape. When she went to the police station, Usmanpur, her complaint was not registered. The family members of the victim also tried to contact the helpline no. 181 but no assistance was provided.

The Commission in its notice to the Commissioner of Police, Delhi has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim. He has been asked to submit a report within four weeks.
