New Delhi, July 20th, 2010
The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Director General, Police, Kerala calling for a report within two weeks in connection with a complaint alleging that the police under the guise of investigation in a criminal case involving attack on Prof. T.J. Joseph of Newman's College, many members of various Muslim families are being harassed by frequent search and seizure of various items from their houses. The notice was issued on the 16th July, 2010.

The complaint was lodged by Mr. N.M. Siddhiq, President, National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation, District Committee, Ernakulam. Prof. Joseph of Newman's College, Thodupuzha, Idukki was recently attacked by some people who chopped off his right hand for allegedly preparing a question paper having derogatory references to Prophet Mohammad.
