NHRC notice to DGP, UP on allegations of a woman's rape by policemen inside police station.

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a woman was raped by policemen inside a police station in District Sant Kabir Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. The Commission has observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim. Notices were issued to the State DGP and the District SP calling for reports within four weeks.
According to the media reports, pursuant to non-bailable warrants issued by the District Court, a person was arrested by Bakhira Police out-post, in the District on 26th May, 2013. His wife approached the police out-post later in the evening with a request to release her husband, but the In-charge of the Out-Post and three constables raped her. When released from the jail on 29th May, 2013, the victim's husband made a written complaint with the district police about the incident.
