NHRC notice to Government of Haryana over atrocity against Dalits in Hissar (26.11.2015)

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that in Muzadpur village of District Hissar, Haryana, some influential persons barged into the house of a Dalit compelled the Dalit and his daughter to eat cow dung. They also physically assaulted and injured them. When they went to the hospital for treatment, they were again attacked and beaten.
The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, it true, raise serious issue of violation of human rights of the Dalit family. Accordingly, it has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of Haryana calling for a report within two weeks.
According to the media report, carried on the 23rd November, 2015, the victim and his daughter have stated that they have been targeted after a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was erected in the village, despite opposition from some villagers.
