NHRC notice to Haryana Government on allegations of increasing incidents of abandoned infant girls in the State

The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of Haryana asking him to submit a report on allegations, as reported in the media, that incidents of abandoned infant girls has recently shot up in the State. In the month of April-May, 2012 in a span of ten days four abandoned baby girls were admitted to the Post Graduate Institution of Medical Sciences, Rohtak, in a critical condition. The Commission has given four weeks time for response.
While taking suo motu cognizance of a news story forwarded by Jai Hind Anti Corruption Society in this regard, the Commission has also directed the Chief Secretary to inform on the following points:-
" In the wake of low sex ratio in the country, whether any steps have been taken by the State Government in the past for sensitizing the people of Haryana of its consequences; and
" What remedial measures like setting up of cradles outside the destitute woman homes/nursing homes/hospitals are being taken up to save the abandoned newly born.
