NHRC notice to HRD Ministry and Delhi Police Commissioner over reports of school campus wall collapse killing one person and injuring two others (19.03.2015)



New Delhi, 19th March, 2015

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports that one person was killed and two others critically injured when the boundary wall of Kendriya Vidyalaya, near Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi collapsed on a road side tea stall on the 12th March, 2015. At the time of the incident, the victims were sitting at a roadside tea stall on the other side of the school's boundary wall. The victims were rushed to the hospital where one succumbed to his injuries. The two others were stated to be critical. Another suffered minor injuries.
The Commission has observed that the contents of media reports, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victims. Accordingly, it has issued notices to the Secretary, Department of School Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development and Delhi Police Commissioner calling for a factual report in the matter within two weeks.
