NHRC notice to Rajasthan Electricity Board and district authorities into electrocution of 6 boys and burn injuries to 22 others in Churu

New Delhi, 26th April, 2013
The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo-motu cognizance of a media report that 6 boys were electrocuted and 22 others received burn injuries when their bus came in contact with a live wire in District Churu, Rajasthan. The victims were part of a marriage party on the way to a village in Sardarshahr Town when the incident occurred near Lodsar Village.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victims due to negligence of the Electricity Department in not properly maintaining electrical wires. Notices have been issued to the DM and SP, District Churu and Chairman, Rajasthan State Electricity Board, calling for reports in the matter within four weeks.
