NHRC notice to SP, GRP, Lucknow on allegations of gang rape at Charbagh Railway Station (07.9.2015)

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a 16 year old girl was allegedly gang raped on a deserted terrace of the busy Charbagh Railway Station in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and dumped in a Malda bound train with serious injuries on the night of 16th August, 2015.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim girl. Accordingly, it has issued a notice to the Superintendent of Police, Government Railway Police, Lucknow calling for a report within two weeks.

Reportedly, the victim girl was later found by the police when she reached Patna by Farakka Express. She was medically examined and her statement was recorded before the Magistrate. They informed the Lucknow Government Railway Police. Subsequently, five accused and a woman were arrested with whom the girl was staying in Lucknow. One of the accused remained to be arrested.
