NHRC notice to the Delhi Government on a complaint alleging 1027 starvation deaths


New Delhi, 12th February, 2013
The National Human Rights Commission has taken cognizance of a complaint alleging death of 1027 persons due to starvation in Delhi between the year 1999-2011. The Commission has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of NCT of Delhi calling for a report in the matter within six weeks.


The complainant has also alleged that during this period 468 persons committed suicide due to their poor financial position. He referred a press clipping published in a Delhi newspaper on the 9th February, 2013 in support of his claim, and requested a high level enquiry of the matter to take preventive steps to stop recurrence of such fatal incidents.
