NHRC notice to the Rajasthan Government over reports of electrocution of 15 people and injuries to 31 in Tonk (07.7.2015)

The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of Rajasthan calling for a report into an incident of electrocution of 15 people and injury to 31 others in Tonk District, Rajasthan on the 12th June, 2015. He has been given four weeks time to respond.
The Commission's directions have come following a suo motu cognizance of a media report about the incident in which a high voltage live electric wire fell on the bus carrying 50-60 people to a marriage ceremony at Village Saans in the district.
The Commission has observed that it is of utmost importance and absolute responsibility of the State authorities to maintain high voltage electric supply lines safely and avoid any mishap like the present one. The incident has indeed resulted in loss of lives and injuries to many, violating their human rights.
