NHRC notice to the Union Home Secretary over reports of BSF jawans thrashing a young man near Bangladesh border

The National Human Rights Commission taking suo motu cognizance of a media report has issued a notice to the Union Home Secretary calling for a report within four weeks into alleged merciless thrashing of a young man by the BSF jawans near Indo-Bangladesh border in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.

The Commission has observed that the contents of press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim.

According to the report, giving details of a video telecast of the incident covered by a local TV channel, the young man, allegedly a Bangladeshi - stripped off all clothing and bound to a bamboo staff - was assaulted by four BSF personnel with lathis.
