NHRC notice to the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports over report of ill treatment to deaf and dumb players (19/10/2015)

The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, through its Secretary on a media report that the passports of Indian players, who had gone to participate in Asia-Pacific deaf and dumb games, were seized in China Taipei due to non-payment of hotel bills.
The Commission has observed that the incident, if true, indicates gross negligence on the part of the Ministry and violation of human rights of the disabled players. It has asked the Secretary, Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to submit a detailed report in the matter within four weeks.
According to the media report, carried on the 8th October, 2015, the players also had a difficult time in Delhi when they spend a night on the footpath outside a Gurudwara while waiting to get visa as arrangements for their stay could not be made.
