NHRC notices to DM & SP, Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh on allegations of rape of a two year old girl (13.3.2015)

New Delhi, 13th March, 2015

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a 50 year old person sexually assaulted a two year old girl child, who was struggling for life at a hospital in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The incident was reported to have happened in Karera Police Station area of Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh on the 8th March, 2015.

The girl was admitted to district hospital but when her condition deteriorated, she was referred to Gwalior. Allegedly, while taking the victim to Gwalior, the local police showed insensitivity by making her mother sit on the floor of the ambulance with her and occupied the seats for themselves.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim girl. Accordingly, it has issued notices to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh calling for reports within two weeks. The District Magistrate has also been directed to inform about the steps taken for providing treatment to the victim child.
