NHRC represents international Conference on Public Health

The Joint Secretary, NHRC, Mrs. Aruna Sharma, representing the Commission co-chaired a discussion session on 'Mapping best practice & identifying research priorities' on public health along with
Dr. Richard Cash, Senior lecture, Harvard School of Public Health, Boston. This was part of an international conference on 'New Directions for Public Health Education in Low and Middle Income Countries' at Hyderabad during 12-14 August 2008. The Conference was organized by the Public Health Foundation of India. Its aim was to review and recommend curricular content design and implementation that would be relevant for a new public health agenda in Low and Middle Income Countries for the 21st century. The Session noted that there is a need to have dialogue between the NGO and the health departments and to make the process of law making more participative to include the views of cross sections of society. During the discussions, it was also pointed out to make health care Accessible, Available and Affordable. The issue of establishing Medical Service Regulatory Authority and Food Safety & Standard Authority was also discussed.
Leading National & International legal experts, health professionals & NGO's participated in the Conference. The Conference discussed various issues related to public health in four technical sessions.
