NHRC's three day training programme on human rights for education officers

The National Human Rights Commission organized three days training programme on human rights for principals and education officers in collaboration with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan in New Delhi on the 5th May, 2011.
Addressing the valedictory session of the training programme, Mr. Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Chairperson, NHRC said that the teachers can be instrumental in spreading a culture of human rights in the country by inculcating values in their students. Emphasizing the importance of the Right to Education and its implementation, Justice Balakrishnan said that there is a need for better education facilities for girl child.
NHRC Chairperson also gave away certificates to the participants and expressed hope that they would make the best use of this programme by further spreading message of human rights among their fellow teachers and students of their respective institutions.
During the training programme, several issues of human rights and the existing laws to protect them were discussed. These included, among others, the Rights of Persons with Disability, Child Rights, Right to Education, Manual Scavenging, Women's Rights, Environment Issues and Rights of Elderly Persons.
