NHRC'S WINTER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
NHRC's 10th one month long winter internship programme on human rights was inaugurated by Shri A.K. Jain, Secretary General of the Commission on the 16th December, 2009 in New Delhi. On the occasion, he said that human rights essentially reflect the value system of a society, and these have always been in existence either in practice or in debates in all the societies and civilizations even before the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 after the World War II. Shri Jain expressed the hope that the interns will make the best use of their time during the programme and evolve themselves as ambassadors for the promotion and protection of human rights.
60 students from twenty states in the country have been selected to attend this programme. The interns include thirty six girls and twenty four boys. These also include, for the first time, three students from foreign countries, currently studying in Indian Universities. One among them is from Indonesia and two are from Afghanistan. The interns mainly comprise post-graduate level students of law, political science, social work, criminology and human rights. The aim of the internship programme is to sensitize the young students about the various aspects of human rights. It will be concluding on the 15th January, 2010.
