NHRC Seeks a factual report from District Collector, Gautam Budh Nagar on abandoned boy
New Delhi, January 05, 2006
The National Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the District Collector, Gautam Budh Nagar about a media report which said a boy who was abandoned in a sedated condition by an unidentified man a week ago, was being looked after by a tea stall owner.
The report covered by NDTV on December 28, 2006 said that, the police was called in but when the boy could not tell anything about his parents, they left him at the tea stall. The report further said that police and the administrative authorities were not available for comments on the rehabilitation and protection of the boy named Jitendra. The media report also suggested that it is not clear how the boy will be handed over to the right authority as Uttar Pradesh does not have a specific Govt. body to protect such children.
After going through the contents of the report, the Commission said if they are true, they raise serious issue of violation of human rights of children. The Commission has sought a factual report from the District Collector within two weeks.
