New Delhi, January 31st, 2012

The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Odisha Government calling for a report within four weeks on a complaint alleging that thirty houses of dalits were destroyed and burnt by some persons belonging to upper castes in Lathore village of Bolangir District in Odisha on the 22nd January, 2012.

Reportedly, after the incident, the affected families of dalits were kept in temporary camps. The complainant had requested a high level inquiry in the matter, legal action against the accused and adequate compensation to the victims.
