NHRC seminar on challenges of human rights and issues of sensitivity
The NHRC organised a two day 'National Seminar on Challenges of Human Rights, Issues of Sensitivity and 21st Century' in Hindi, in collaboration with Devi Ahilya Vishvavidyalaya, Indore, Madhya Pradesh from the 12th-13th September, 2013. Addressing it as the Chief Guest, Justice Shri K.G. Balakrishnan, Chairperson, NHRC said that conflicts arise because of feelings of deprivation, outrage and a compromise of human dignity. Millions of people in this country still live in a state of abject poverty, without food, shelter, employment, healthcare and education. Corruption, denial of gender equality and exploitation of women, terrorism are some of the other issues which are seriously impacting human life.
He said that academicians, philosophers and social analysts should make a concerted effort to influence policy makers that while working towards convergence of human development and human rights they should address the ills that bring indignity and suffering to fellow human beings.
Addressing the inaugural session of the seminar, noted poet and thinker Shri Chadrakant Devtale said that amidst the onslaught of capitalism, the country needed to protect intellectuals. Dr. D.P. Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Devi Ahilya Vishvavidyalaya said that value-based education is needed to protect human rights in society.
Several prominent litterateurs participated in the discussions. Shri J.S. Kochher, J.S. (T&R) and Dr. S.K. Shukla, A.D. (OL), NHRC also addressed the seminar, which was anchored by Shri Sanjay Kumar, Under Secretary, NHRC.
