NHRC send team to Pataudi town, Gurgaon

The National Human Rights Commission will be sending an investigation team to Pataudi town of Gurgaon district in Haryana where half burnt foetuses were recovered from a well near a nursing home. The investigation team will conduct on the spot inquiry and submit a report within two weeks.
The Commission's decision comes after it took suo-motu cognizance of a report published in the "Hindustan Times" on June 15, 2007 which said that Haryana Health Department officials had raided a maternity and nursing home run by one A.K. Singh, a quack and recovered a large quantity of foetal remains from the well. The report further said that A.K. Singh the owner of the nursing home was earlier also convicted for medical practice with a bogus MBBS degree.
The report also highlighted that the clinic was involved in sex determination tests and female foeticide for many years. The raiding party has also seized portable ultrasound machine and equipment used for termination of pregnancy.
After going through the contents of news report, the Commission also asked Chief Secretary and DGP, Haryana to submit a report within four weeks.
