NHRC spot investigations lead to the identification of 58 bonded labourers in Haryana
With the assistance of an investigation team sent by the NHRC in V.A.V.S. Bhatta Company, Kanonda, Bahadurgarh, S.P. Bhatta Company, Goyala Kalon, Bahadurgarh, K.P. Bhatta Company, Bhupina, Bahadurgarh and Friends Bhatta Company, Goyala Kalon, Bhahadurgarh Tehsil of District Jhajjar in Haryana, the Executive Magistrate of Bahadurgarh in District Jhajjar identified 58 bonded labourers, mostly from western Uttar Pradesh, working in four brick kilns in the area. Their names, together with those of 40 adult members of their families and 83 children, were sent to the District Magistrate for action to rehabilitate them. The Executive Magistrate has asked the concerned officials, including the local Station House Officer, to take appropriate action against the owners of the companies, who have violated the provisions of the Bonded Labour System (Abolition Act, 1976) and other labour laws.
