NHRC takes cognizance of missing Children from East Delhi.

The National Human Rights Commission took suo motu cognizance of news reports in some sections of media on missing children from East Delhi.
According to these press reports the number of the cases of disappearance of Children from East Delhi, has significantly increased. Six Children had gone missing on 10/2/2009 itself in a single day while on their way to school Sarvodaya Vidyalya, Vishwas Nagar in East Delhi. In all 15 children including three from a single family have gone missing in recent times. These children are reportedly from poor families and their parents are rickshaw pullers or daily wagers. These parents have been trying to trace their children for months together but of no avail. The media also reported that the police registered 2 criminal cases of kidnapping after the six children went missing.
The Commission considered the matter on 24/2/2009 and observed that this is a serious issue of violation of human rights of children. The NHRC has issued a notice to the Commissioner of Police, Delhi calling for factual report within four weeks from the receipt of the notice.
