NHRC takes cognizance of Pak-Hindu refugees' plight in Delhi

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that highlighted the miseries of about 500 Hindu refugees from Pakistan who fled from their country allegedly due to relentless violence. The Commission has observed that it is concerned about the deplorable conditions in which these refugees are living. The plight of their children is particularly worrisome and assumes more urgency. The issue needs to be handled with humanitarian approach.

The Commission has issued notices to the Secretary, Union Home Ministry, Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs and Chief Secretary, Govt. of NCT of Delhi calling for reports within four weeks.

Reportedly, about 500 Hindu refugees from Pakistan are living in unhygienic conditions in a two-storied dilapidated building having 28 poorly lit small sized rooms sans fans at Bijwasan in the National Capital. Among them are 110 children who are not getting proper diet, schooling and healthcare.
