NHRC takes suo-motu cognizance on violation of Human Rights of some Child patients in AIIMS

The Commission took suo-motu cognizance on a distressing report appeared in "Aaj Samaj" dated 23/3/2009 captioned Rashtrapati Se bachchon ko bachane ki guhar
The report alleged that the patients who were scheduled to undergo switch Arterial Surgery by Dr. Vishoi of AIIMS, Delhi have been waiting for the surgery as the doctor was suspended on 10/3/2009. Due to delay in surgey the lives of the patient children have been reportedly in danger. One Hemant, whose child was scheduled to be operated on 12/3/2009 by the suspended doctor, requested the authorities that the doctor be allowed to operate his child since the child should not suffer for any fault on the part of the suspended doctor. The press report also alleged that while one child Kanchan had been forcibly discharged and one other child named Prithvi expired as he could not be provided post operation care properly. Another patient infant Deepak is reportedly in serious condition
The Commission considers it as serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim child patients.
The Commission issued notice to Director, AIIMS for sending a factual report in the matter to the Commission within two weeks from the date of receipt of notice
Director General (Investigations), NHRC has also been directed to contact the Director, AIIMS, New Delhi for taking appropriate measures on priority.
