NHRC to hold its Camp Sitting to hear 52 cases of 9 districts of UP at Allahabad from 27th - 29th January, 2015 (23.1.2015)

A delegation of the National Human Rights Commission, led by Member, Mr. S.C. Sinha, comprising Mr. C.K. Tyagi, Presenting Officer, Mr. A.K. Parashar, Joint Registrar (Law) and other officers, will be visiting Allahabad in connection with the Commission's Camp Sitting being held at Circuit House, Civil Lines, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh from the 27th to 29th January, 2015.

The aim of the Camp Sitting is to dispose of pending cases by hearing the senior Government officers; sensitizing them about the importance of human rights issues and compliance of NHRC recommendations by them. A meeting with the local NGOs is also held to get an insight into the problems.

During the Camp Sitting at Allahabad, 52 cases will be taken up from the 27th to 28th January, 2015. These pertain to allegations of abuse of power, failure in taking lawful action by the authorities; problems of prisoners and custodial deaths; crime against women; atrocities on SC/ST/OBC; sexual harassment at work places; right to health; bonded labour etc. Apart from this, one case each is related to compliance of Commission's recommendations for monetary relief, show cause notice and CB-CID enquiry.

Out of 52 cases, 15 are from Allahabad, 2 from Pratapgarh, 3 from Chitrakoot, 5 from Fatehpur, 1 from Kaushambi, 12 from Banda, 5 from Faizabad, 4 from Ambedkar Nagar and 5 from Sultanpur.

On 29th January, 2015 the Commission will hold a meeting with the Non-Government Organisations/Human Rights Bodies/Civil Society working in the State. This will be followed by a meeting with the senior officers of the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

The Commission has also organised its Camp Sittings concerning matters of different districts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Bengaluru (for four southern States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu), Odisha, Gujarat, Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh and Chandigarh (for three States of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and UT of Chandigarh).
