NHRC to hold two day National Seminar in Hindi at RTM Nagpur University from 14-15 September, 2015 (11.9.2015)

The National Human Rights Commission is organising a two-day National Seminar on 'Indian Society, Media and Challenges of Human Rights: A Dialogue' in collaboration with the R.T.M. Nagpur University at the Auditorium of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Law of the University on the 14th September, 2015. Mr. Justice Cyriac Joseph, Acting Chairperson, NHRC will inaugurate the seminar as the Chief Guest. Mr. S.C. Sinha, Member, NHRC will be the Guest of Honour. Prof. Girishwar Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi University, Wardha, Maharashtra will deliver the Keynote Address. Mr. S.N. Mohanty, Secretary General, NHRC will also address the gathering.

The seminar is a part of a series of seminars being organised by the NHRC in collaboration with different institutions in different places of the country to build awareness about the importance of protection and promotion of human rights and related issues.

The aim of this seminar is to discuss various aspects related to the role of Indian society and media in promotion and protection of human rights. The seminar has been divided into three academic sessions apart from the inaugural and concluding sessions.

The subjects for discussion in the three academic sessions include, 'Indian Society, Democracy and Human Rights', 'Media, Society and Human Rights' and 'Paramilitary Forces, Society and Human Rights'.

Several prominent speakers would include, among others, Prof. Gurjeet Singh, Former Vice-Chancellor, Indian Law University, Amritsar, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) P.G. Kamath, Former COS, Central Command, Bangalore, Mr. Rahul Dev, Senior Journalist and Writer.

Mr. S.C. Sinha, Member, NHRC will be addressing the concluding session of the seminar on the 15th September, 2015. Dr. Siddarthavinay P. Kane, Vice-Chancellor, R.T.M. Nagpur University will deliver the Presidential Address. Dr. Ranjit Singh, JS, NHRC will also address the gathering among other NHRC officers.
