The National Human Rights Commission organised a training programme on 'Rights Protection, Accountability and Disaster Risk Deduction' in Cuddlore, Tamil Nadu from 12th - 13th March, 2013. Inaugurating it, Justice Shri K.G. Balakrishnan, Chairperson, NHRC said that such training programmes create a community driven approach to promote human rights during natural and man-made disasters to ensure accountability during response. 111 participants, including Block Resource Training Educators, local emergency support staff and members from local NGOs attended. Shri Jaideep Singh Kochher, Joint Secretary (Trg.), NHRC, coordinated and addressed the participants.

The objectives of the training was to train district level authorities in human rights; foster cooperative environment for local authorities, civil society, police, the army and school teachers to work together on human rights, and to generate awareness among the NGOs and the Government functionaries about accountability in humanitarian processes.
