Continuing in the series of Public hearings on Access to Healthcare, the Commission held the Northern Region and Eastern Region Public Hearings in Lucknow and Ranchi on 26 September and on 11 October 2004 respectively. Both these hearings were presided over by Justice Shri Y.Bhaskar Rao, Member of the Commission. The Northern Region hearing covered the States of Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh while the Eastern Region hearing covered the States of Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Chattisgarh and West Bengal. A large number of victims testified before a panel consisting of officials of the Commission, representatives of Jan Swasthya Abhiyan and senior Government officials from the concerned States. Based on these hearings, the Commission proposes to send recommendations to the Government for systemic improvements in the health care delivery.
