Notice issued to Haryana Government on killing of Dalits
The Commission has taken a serious view of the alleged lynching of five dalits in Jhajjar village in Haryana. In its proceedings dated 21 October 2002, the Commission said,This news item and those following it reporting on the killing of five dalits in Jhajjar in Haryana are, to say the least, very shocking. There is as yet no indication of the needed action to apprehend and to proceed against the culprits who are alleged to have perpetrated the heinous crime.
The Commission was shocked at the horrific incident in which five men lost their right to life. It issued notice to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Haryana, calling for a report on the action taken by the Government.
The Commission has also directed its Director General (Investigation) to collect the facts in the meantime
