Notices over demolition rendering several homeless in Delhi
The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports on demolition of slum dwellings at Shakurbasti and Belagaon area in the National Capital and issued notices, among others, to Chairman, Railway Board and Delhi Chief Secretary. It has also decided to send a team of its officers to visit both the places of demolition and conduct an on-the-spot enquiry.
The Commission has observed that the contents of the news reports, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of the right to life, right to shelter and right to dignity of the people, including women and children, who have been rendered homeless due to demolition of their slum dwellings.
