The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that 13 girl students fell sick after consuming mid-day meal in district Balia of Uttar Pradesh and issued notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh calling for report in the matter within four weeks.

As per the report carried on the 11th September, 2012, the girls of Tilak Primary School and Indira Kanya Junior High School in district Balia fell sick after eating Daliya supplied by an NGO. They were admitted to Sadar Hospital from where they were discharged in the evening.
