Anand Kumar died in police custody on 27.04.2006. The contention of the police was that he escaped police custody and died due to drowning in Hussain Sagar Lake, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh where he had led the police party to his accomplices. The Commission held that he could not have escaped without the negligence of the police personnel, he could not have escaped and recommended that the Andhra Pradesh Government give monetary relief of one lakh rupees to the next of kin.
