One lakh rupees relief in a case of death of a woman prisoner's child
Case No. 24687/24/2006-07

An undertrial prisoner named Bobby gave birth to a child inside Agra Central Jail on the 23rd August, 2006. However, the child died in
the absence of adequate medical facilities and lack of nutritious diet to both the mother and the new born. The Commission on the 20th
April, 2009 recommended a relief
of one lakh rupees to the bereaved mother. The Commission observed that the Supreme Court guidelines on children of women prisoners
were not being followed and innocent children continued to
be victims of administrative apathy and indifference.
